UK Espresso Italiano Champion

UK Espresso Italiano Champion

UK ESPRESSO ITALIANO CHAMPION

Sunday 30 June 2019 at 1pm @ Fora 25-41 Folgate Street Spitafields London - E1 SBX

Who is the most talented barista in the UK? There’s only one way to find out: by having them compete among themselves to elect the ‘champion’.
Whoever can prepare the machine and make four espressos and four cappuccinos in only 11 minutes to the highest of standards in terms of technique and quality will be crowned the winner. All will be revealed on Sunday, 30th June during the British finals of the Espresso Italiano Champion held by the National Institute of the Italian Espresso that is currently underway in various countries around the world in a bid to find the best of the best – the barista who will represent their country in the grand final in Milan in October.

In the UK capital, 10 baristas will battle it out for one of the sought-after places in the final. The challenge takes place at the “Fora” coworking space
(35-41 Folgate St, Spitalfields, London E1 6BX) an event organised by Caffe’ Latino in collaboration with the coffee-roasting certification, “Caffen”, “La Genovese”, “Astoria”, “Saturno”, “Faema” company, and in partnership with the Italian Chamber of Commerce, The Italian Barista School, IIAC – the International Institute of coffee tasters, Chef Med and HQF.In the UK capital, 10 baristas will battle it out for one of the sought-after places in the final. Now in its sixth year, the championship of 2019 will see hundreds of baristas from across the globe competing with each other to produce the perfect espresso or cappuccino - from Italy, to Germany, via Russia, Japan, Taiwan, Thailand as well as the UK of course, all participating in a number of preliminary competitions.

The previous Italian Espresso Champions were: Filippo Mezzaro of Italy in 2014, Greece’s Giannis Magkanas in 2015, Korean Park Dae Hoon in 2016, Italian Fabio Dotti in 2017, and Taiwanese Chang Chung-Lun in 2018.

Two separate panels will rule on the UK winner in the national finals of 30th June in London. Each panel carries equal weight when choosing the winner. The first panel that will decide on technique is made up of experts working in
the coffee bar industry and the second panel will rule on ‘taste’ and ‘sensory’ value and comes from IIAC, the International Institute of coffee tasters. “ The UK, and in particular London, has grown in recent years in terms of its knowledge in the field of Espresso coffee. And this has happened thanks to the meticulous attention given to the choice of product and who is making it – explains Francesco Buompane of Caffe’ Latino and organiser of the London
finals. The Italian Espresso Championships on 30th June is a demonstration
of this and will pitch the best-trained baristas in the land against each other – those who have used their in-depth experience to reach the highest level of quality in making Italian espresso in the UK. For us in the industry, and for the general public, watching them work at creating the best that they can will be a great pleasure, down to the last tastiest espresso ”.
