Presentation “Survey of the Italian Investments in the UK 2019”, June 11th 2019

Presentation “Survey of the Italian Investments in the UK 2019”, June 11th 2019

On June 11th, The Italian Chamber of Commerce and Industry for the UK presented its sixth edition of the "Survey of the Italian Investments in the UK 2019" at the Embassy of Italy in London.

The study was conducted with the intention of monitoring, for the three-year period 2015-2018 (and for the first months of 2019), the trend of FDI carried out by Italian companies both in terms of opening branches of companies in a foreign country and of acquisition and merger operations with foreign companies. The analysis therefore offers a macro perspective and then develops a more detailed focus on relations between Italy and the United Kingdom. For this edition, the analysis has been enriched with additional elements that have been necessary to consider in relation to the investment or divestment choices made by Italian companies with respect to Brexit. In addition, a sectoral study has been included, through which we have reported the story of illustrious Italian business cases.

The aim of the publication was therefore to offer both countries a further study of how, over time, investment choices have changed, which roads have followed Italian businesses and, considering forecasts and trends global, on which sectors it would be appropriate to "bet".

The presentation of the publication allowed to bring together in London some of the Italian and English political and institutional representatives, the representatives of important Italian brands as well as relevant actors belonging to the Ita-UK financial ecosystem.

Following the introductory speech by the Italian Ambassador in London, Raffaele Trombetta, and the subsequent introductory speech by the President of the Chamber of Commerce Leonardo Simonelli, the debate opened, leaving space also to the story of the personal experiences of some figures reference of Italian entrepreneurship in the UK. The panel, moderated by Marco Niada (Finsbury Associate Partner, former London Bureau Chief of Il Sole 24 Ore), saw as protagonists:

• Giuseppe Munari (Country Operations Manager, Sofidel SpA)
• Ernesto Sicilia (Managing Director, Trenitalia UK)
• Paolo Formica (Managing Director and North, Baltic and Arctic Sea Area Manager, Saipem)
• Domenico Meliti (CEO, EMD Group)
• Michael Charlton (Director of International Trade Department)
• Maurizio Ghirga (UK Chief Representative of Bank of Italy & Financial Attache ’Italian Embassy)

The publication will be available online and available at the following link
