24 July 2019

On Wednesday 17th and Thursday 18th July 2019, The Italian Chamber of Commerce and Industry for the UK, Intesa Sanpaolo Innovation Center and the Puglia Region, participated as Gold Sponsors in a new edition of Unbound London 2019, bringing a delegation of 20 start-ups.

The inauguration of the festival was held during the day before the event, in collaboration with the Embassy of Italy in London and the Italian Trade Agency and promoted as "Italy4Innovation event". Following the opening remarks taught by the Italian Ambassador Raffaele Trombetta, the start-ups had the opportunity to attend a discussion between three different panelists. The latter have addressed the issue of investment opportunities and the related support from the Government, comparing the English situation with the Italian one and giving participants the chance to have a clearer view of the general framework.

Unbound London 2019 represents a leading innovation platform, aligned with the growing attention of the United Kingdom to innovation and the digital economy, and directed at a main audience and business innovators. Brands, business executives and investors take the opportunity to meet Europe's most disruptive start-ups, forge partnerships and explore new opportunities. The festival has connected over 5,000 founders, entrepreneurs, investors, corporate and brand managers with innovation sources from all over the world. In fact, the crucial issues taken into consideration concerned AI, Fintech, blockchain, eCommerce, the digital consumer and Generation Z, immersive media and narration, how to build a sustainable future, the internet of things, future talents and open innovation.

In this context, part of the delegation was further enhanced thanks to the participation in a "pitch session", during which the competitors were evaluated based on a general description of their company and on the answers to the related questions asked. On the other hand, other start-ups have been selected to take part in some competitions such as the "Female Founders Challenge". It is a challenge of 5 important entrepreneurs also judged and subsequently awarded. The composition of the juries saw the presence of investors, industry-leading innovators and serial entrepreneurs, who recognized innovative projects in the companies.

As a conclusion of the event, the three Gold Sponsors in collaboration with London & Partners, presented the Italian Innovation Mixer. This represented an opportunity both to present to the public an overview of the Italian System, with the related bilateral investment opportunities with England, and to promote contact and development of the network between Italian and English companies, in order to encourage new business opportunities and exchange of know-how. Moderated by the President Emeritus of the Italian Chamber of Commerce and Industry for the UK Leonardo Simonelli, 5 different figures of relevance within the two countries taken into consideration took the floor. In particular:
- Alessandro Belluzzo, President of the Italian Chamber of Commerce and Industry for the UK
- Alberto Mancuso, General Manager at Intesa Sanpaolo (London Branch)
- Ferdinando Pastore, Director of Italian Trade Agency
- Theresa Mulloy, PM International Business Promotion and Inward Investment, Puglia Sviluppo S.p.A.
- Alban Remy, Head of Innovation and Life Sciences, London & Partners.
