Business and diplomatic visits to Scotland

Business and diplomatic visits to Scotland

May has been quite an intense month in terms of visits from diplomatic representative to Scotland, showing how the Country plays an important role for the economic future of the UK, representing a booming area where to make business.

On the 9th and 10th May, the Italian Chamber of Commerce for the UK was pleased to welcome the new Italian Ambassador for the UK Raffaele Trombetta during his first official visit to Scotland. The visit saw the participation of the ITA along with Trenitalia UK, Tratos, Saipem and Asahi, and had a strong focus on trade, aiming to create opportunities for Italian businesses. The Ambassador met different key political and economic leaders to discuss the strong economic, scientific and cultural links between Italy and Scotland, speaking about innovation, technology, and the digital economy as well as Italy’s manufacturing industry. Ambassador Trombetta also visited Leonardo Airborne & Space Systems, the avionics and space systems division of the Leonardo Group, the largest Italian investor in the UK, and he discussed the projects the Italian Chamber of Commerce is carrying out in collaboration with the Turin and Glasgow Chamber of Commerce, during a meeting with Eva Bolander, the Lord Provost of Glasgow.

Moreover, last 21st and 22nd May, Her Majesty's Ambassador to Italy Jill Morris paid a visit to Scotland as well. Along with Scottish Development International, the Italian Chamber of Commerce organised a meeting between the Ambassador, the Glasgow Chamber of Commerce and the Glasgow City Chambers, during which the most interesting Scotland's industries and business activities were discussed, as well as projects the Italian Chamber is carrying out with different stakeholders in Italy.
