FIFTH SURVEY OF ITALIAN INVESTMENTS IN THE UK
The fifth 'Survey of Italian investments in the UK' has been realised in co-operation with the Italian Embassy and in collaboration with the British Chamber of Commerce for Italy.

The report is based on the detailed study of Italian companies in the UK, a directory comprising 695 Italian companies with subsidiaries or interest in the United Kingdom. The analysis illustrates how the financial crisis has not by any means deterred investment, and that UK investment remains a viable option for Italian businesses. Italian investors, in spite of the crisis, continue to address specific investments in the UK. In recent years, Italy has been ranked as one of the largest investors in the British economy, accounting for 369 projects since 2009, particularly in (renewable) Energy, Advanced Engineering (aerospace and automotive), Creative and Digital industries, and creating around 8,500 new jobs.

INVESTING IN THE UK: WHAT THE BUDGET MEANS FOR YOU?

The UK 2010 Budget was not expected to raise any eyebrows and was intended to be effectively a handshake with the City designed to quieten the world markets and steady sterling.

Whether or not it achieved its goal still remains to be seen with many commentators betting on an emergency budget in June following a May general election. The important question for foreign investors in the UK is what does the Budget do for them?

DILEMMA: DOING BUSINESS WITH A DISTRIBUTOR OR AN AGENT?

A common dilemma faced by many Italian suppliers and manufacturers is how to develop connections with UK commercial partners in order to break into the UK market.

The unparallel richness and diversity of Italian products, known overseas as the “Made in Italy” effect, corresponds well with the Italian sense of individuality, quality and anti-global culture.

REDUNDANCIES:

“For better for worse, for richer for poorer: Avoiding Redundancies in the downturn”

There is talk of “green shoots” in the media. You may be hearing that the longed for recovery is on the horizon. But your business may still be suffering. Your management team may still be facing tough dilemmas and torn between the choice of either rescuing or sacrificing your most valuable asset – your employees. As Ray Kroc once said ‘your business is only as good as the people who work for you’.
